Asgardia Is Accepting Citizenship Applications

Asgardia

You can now apply for the citizenship of Asgardia, the world’s first space nation.

Are you tired of the old-fashioned way of living down here on planet Earth? Then great news for you. Scientists have announced plans for Asgardia, the first space nation, and are looking for 100,000 people to grant the citizenship to.

Dr. Igor Ashurbeyli of the Aerospace International Research Center announced the plans on the same day he became chairman of UNESCO’s Science of Space committee. Speaking in Paris, he said that Asgaria aims to “flourish free from the tight restrictions of state control that currently exist.”

He added that the mission of the “Asdargians” will be to act as guardians of planet Earth, and the “nation’s” first initiative would be to build a protective shield keeping Earth safe from debris, asteroids and coronal mass ejections from the sun.

All current space programs, whether government or commercially operated, are and must be supervised and authorized by a recognized government on Earth. Asgardia will apply for the status of a state once its number of citizenships reaches above 100,000. The first 100,000 applicants will also be automatically qualified to become Asgardians.

The space nation gets its name from the Nordic mythology of a city in the sky ruled by Odin, Asgard, and is the work of a team of scientists and legal experts who hope it will someday become a fully recognized and active member of the United Nations.

With plans to launch a satellite into low-Earth orbit as soon as 2017, Asgardia is currently accepting suggestions for a flag, insignia and anthem, as well as citizens.

At the moment, anyone can apply for a citizenship and be part of the first human space colony through their website.
