Qatar National Football Team Gets New Coach After Carreno Sack

Jorge Fossatti will coach the Qatar national football team for Russia 2018

The Qatar national football team has one last shot to qualify to the Russia 2018 FIFA World Cup, and puts all hope in new coach Jorge Fossati.

The Qatar Football Association has sacked Uruguayan Jose Daniel Carreno just seven months after naming him the one to prepare the Qatar national football team for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia. The call came after back-to-back losses against Iran and Uzbekistan in the latest round of world cup qualifiers.

In a quick decision, the QFA replaced Carreno with Jorge Fossati, who coached the Qatar national team nearly a decade ago, between 2007 and 2008, and is currently coaching the Qatar Stars League champion Al Rayyan.

Commenting on the possibility of being offered the position, after a game between Al Rayyan and Umm Salah, which ended in a draw with neither team scoring, Fossati said:

“Qatar is a special country for me and I cannot refuse an offer if it is made to me.”

Fossati’s first objective will be to beat South Korea in world cup qualifier on October 6.

Qatar is currently desperate to qualify to the 2018 World Cup, or it will become the first country to host a world cup without ever qualifying to one after Italy in 1934.

Qatar will be hosting the world cup after Russia, in 2022, and has already begun a $200 billion development project to prepare the country. It is accustomed that a host nation participates in the games, but Qatar is eager to prove their national team’s strength and dedication, and hopes to qualify to the 2018 championship.
