It might come as a surprise to you, but many movies that are considered as modern classics are in fact remakes of not so popular oldies.
Directors and movie maker’s are often influenced and inspired by older work, and sometimes if they are lucky, they get the chance to reinvent an old movie.
Here’s a list of 5 movies you didn’t know were remakes:
Meet The Parents
We all know this movie, it is everyone’s favorite, starring Robert De Niro and Ben Stiller from 2000. Stiller plays a boyfriend who meets his girlfriend’s parents for the first time, to ask her hand in marriage. However, this masterpiece is actually a remake of 1992 indie film named The Parents.
The remake sparked two sequels, Meet the Fockers in 2006 and Little Fockers in 2010, as well as two failed NBC TV shows, the reality TV show Meet My Folks, and sitcom In-Laws.
The Bourne Identity
Yes, The Bourne Identity is a remake, we don’t believe it either. The blockbuster action movie starring Matt Damon, is about a spy who wakes up with amnesia and struggles to uncover his past. The series also gave life to a spin-off starring Jeremy Renner, named The Bourne Legacy.
This movie is a remake of the 1988 two-part TV movie, also named The Bourne Identity. The original follows a similar story line, where a spy named also named Jason Bourne also has amnesia.
Scarface
This will upset most of you, but Scarface as we know it is not the original. The first Scarface movies was based a 1929 novel of the same name, a subtle biography of the notorious gangster, Al Capone.
The Al Pacino version was supposed to follow its predecessor with a Chicago Prohibition-era setting, but the filmmakers preferred cocaine soaked Miami.
Unfaithful
You all remember when Diane Lane cheated on Richard Gere with that awkward French guy, well that wasn’t really the first time a wife sneaks off into the arms of another man. The 2002 Academy Award nominee is actually a remake of 1968’s The Unfaithful Wife.
Even though the two share a very similar story line, the 1968 version was far less sexually graphic.
Casino Royale
Well, this is awkward. One of the most famous James Bond movies is a remake of a 1967 Casino Royale which is not part of the franchise.
The original Casino Royale starred David Nivens, and even though it was also based on Ian Fleming’s novel, it did not achieve similar success as the 2006 version, starring Daniel Craig and Eva Green.
