Ahead of the FIFA 2022 world football championship which is scheduled to take part in Qatar, Al Rayyan Stadium was awarded the Stadium of Year Award.
The Qatar’s Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy was awarded the Stadium Design of the Year award for the Al Rayyan Stadium at the 2016 World Stadium Congress in Doha.
The Al Rayyan Stadium will he most likely be one of the venues for the FIFA World Cup, which will be held in Qatar in 2022. The stadium is built on top of the site where the former Ahmed Bin Ali Stadium stood.
It is planned to have be home to over 40,000 seats, to host the millions who will be attending the games. But will be adjusted into just over 20,000 seats after the FIFA 2020, and will host local sporting events.
The stadium has a surrounding front inspired by Islamic geometric patterns, with an all out look of contemporary Islamic architecture.
The Al Rayyan Stadium will also include a complex with sports facilities and shops, cafes, and a park filled with wildlife, both flora and fauna.
