Breastfeeding Awareness Workshop at Al Wakra Hospital

The Obstetrics and Gynecology Department at Al Wakra Hospital (AWH)  organized a breastfeeding workshop and awareness campaign this last May. The aim was to raise public awareness of the role and benefits of breastfeeding.

The campaign was being held at Al Wakra Hospital, in collaboration with the Mother and Child Education Clinic to raise public awareness of the importance of breastfeeding and its benefits on future generations. The hospital’s Outpatient Department was open throughout the week so that people could come in with questions, and have them answered by experts.

The workshop, on the other hand, which was in both Arabic and English, outlined a system of 10 steps to successfully breastfeed, highlighting the difficulties women can face during a child’s infancy.

According to WebMD, breastfeeding is perfect for infants for several reasons when it is compared to baby formula, especially during the child’s first four months. Breast milk contains active infection-fighting white blood cells and other natural chemicals that can protect a child from infections and help boost the baby’s immune system. It also contains a perfect balance of nutrients, such as protein, carbohydrates, fat and calcium – and is easy on the infant’s digestive system.

Not to forget: Breast milk is free, and always available.
