Shifting Sands: A journey of Qatar And Its People

A group of MA students at the University College London (UCL) Qatar prepared an astonishing exhibition from Qatar’s past 6-7 decades. The exhibition named Shifting Sands: A Journey Of Qatar And Its People, will take visitors through time, exploring the massive transformations Qatar went through just recently.

The idea came together after MA Museum and Gallery Practice students at UCL visited the Sheikh Faisal bin Qassim Al Thani Museum, with hopes of creating an engaging project with the help of the Qatari public. The organizers have received over 200 entries, from 21 amateur and professional photographers. The amount was more than they anticipated, and portrays a photographic timeline of the country’s history. Also on exhibit are 90 precious Qatari historical artifacts and items.

Attendees have the chance to witness stories of the journey of Qatar and its people through an interview with Sheikh Faisal Bin Qassim Al Thani, along with some of the museum’s private collection, making it a state-of-the-art interactive display.

The exhibition takes you on a journey through Qatar’s shift from a desert nation to one of the most advanced metropolises in the world. With photographs and artifacts, the showcase accompanies the people of Qatar through the physical transformation of their everyday life, as they took their origins and roots and incorporated it with today’s modernity.

Launched on April 7, the exhibition is set up at the Sheikh Faisal bin Qassim museum and will remain available until June 7.
