Women’s Hospital In Qatar Now Hold Prescription Medication Vending Machines

The new Women’s Hospital in Doha may soon cater doctor-prescribed medicines through automated self-service machines, replacing pharmacies. Read the details below.

Vending machines have been around for a while in major establishments, especially hospitals where visitors can enjoy coffee or snacks during long waiting times.

Now, the Women’s Hospital in the Qatari capital is experimenting with this service in various departments and the experience has been so far successful.

The experiment according to several media outlets is the first of its kind in the Middle East, proving that once again Qatar is a pioneer when it comes to the public healthcare in the region.

Patients will most likely be grateful for this service as it avoids them long queues at the hospital’s pharmacy to get the medications prescribed by the doctors.

Once the patients have seen a doctor and have received a written prescription, they can go to these self-serving machines, enter their health number to access the prescribed medicines. And if they have a query, they can press a button to access the pharmacy through a hanging service phone.

Three kiosks on trial were launched about two months ago and since the experience has been successful, more vending machines will be added at the Women’s hospital in one month from now, as the experimental period will end.

The service is particularly helpful for those have emergency cases and although it is available for Qatari nationals only it will also become available for expatriates in the future.
