What to visit

King Fahed National Library, A Must See Monument

Christian Richters

Personally, if one were to state their favorite place to hang out or indulge in browsing and contemplating countless options, our immediate answer would definitely be the library. Given our avid love for writing, we feel the library is one of the settings with the most radiant energy and collective presence of thought in a single locale. For us, there is no better place to get lost at, and there isn’t a better way for us to indulge and set forth our imagination, onto the dreams and ideas of other individuals.

We really believe in the value of reading, as there is nothing more noble than extended knowledge, and there has never been a better way at educating oneself; whether on matters of life, or on matters of business, or any other topic, no matter how advanced and digital books have become, the presence of a library provides the area it is in, with grandeur and with a sense of intellectuality, rendering it into a hub of thinking.

There is never, and will never be intelligence without the discipline of education, whether it is through books, tools, or teachers, and mentors.

Luckily, a beautiful and new project has recently seen the light of day, and it truly is a beautiful piece of architecture, with a form as beautiful as its content.

The King Fahed National Library, is a project implemented by Gerber Architekten, within the city of Riyadh in The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The Library opened its doors in 2013, and is now considered one of the Riyadh’s most significant modern monuments, distinguished by its urban feel, and by its Middle Eastern patterns, molded in the most interesting manner to counter emphasize the oriental and modern culture at once.

The building helps individuals and tourists better understand the aesthetic of Saudi culture.

The design radiates of symmetry, as well as proper urban planning, merging the cream stiff shapes into beautiful multi-dimensional elements makes this building timeless.

As a matter of fact the old building within the King Fahed National Library is now engulfed by the old building. The cable structure surrounding the engulfed new space is one that allows only 7% of heat to travel through the walls, thus allowing for optimum ventilation.

Personally, i think the library radiates an urban feel that puts Saudi monuments in a modern, and beautiful direction. This building is really a well designed space, and it really is the definition of comfortable urban style. Such initiatives are truly putting Saudi Arabia in a well defined direction, we hope to see many more, and many similar to this.
